Buck's Stop

California Central Coast, July 25 – August 5

Next I headed over to the central California coast—Monterey Bay and Morro Bay, with Big Sur in between, and down south to Santa Barbara. Natural bridges, sheer cliffs, crashing waves, spectacular vistas, and miles of open coastline to take it all in.

Natural Bridges State Beach

Named for the naturally occurring mudstone bridges carved out by the Pacific Ocean. As recently as 1905 there were three arches. The outermost arch collapsed in 1905 or 1906. The inner arch collapsed during a storm in 1980. The middle arch is said to be in danger of collapsing now as well.

‘Condor Overlook’ on the Big Sur, where I didn’t see a California Condor.

Morro Rock on a foggy morning (as most mornings were)
Morro Rock is a volcanic plug, formed when lava hardened in an active vent, the original volcano has eroded away.

I also love your Willet image. I’ll never forget a trip to Cape May, NJ and listening to one call out its name . . . I’m Willy Willet, I’m Willey Wittet.
