Panama 2026: Gamboa/Pipeline Road, Feb 2 – 4

The Summit Rainforest & Golf Resort was the home base for the tour start.

We birded several hotspots in and around Gamboa, including the famous (among birders) Pipeline Road.

In World War II, the U.S. Navy built a pipeline across the isthmus of Panama to guarantee fuel for the Pacific fleet. Pipeline Road was built to facilitate maintenance of the pipeline. Today the gravel road provides access to the 55,000 acre tropical rainforest in the Soberania National Park.

eBird shows 462 bird species have been seen along Pipeline Road. Soberania National Park is also home to 105 species of mammals.
